Whither Thou Goest: The Story of Ruth is based on the Book of Ruth from the Bible and is set in The Great Depression of the 1930s in the poor coal mining town of Bethlehem, West Virginia. The score is a compilation of old gospel hymns played in a bluegrass style and performed live featuring Jonah Powell on fiddle and mandolin, Angelo Meli on guitar, Crispin Campbell on cello, Joe Wilson on dobro and Andy Evans on upright bass. Period costumes, amazing sets and Thomas Morrell's eclectic choreography combine to unite old world biblical times with 20th Century Americana in this timeless tale of faith and devotion. This talented 32-member youth ballet company will transform the Milliken Auditorium stage into a remarkable time in our history. The ballet is a performance not to be missed.

Audition to be in The Nutcracker and the NMBT Company for the 2023 season! Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the audition to fill out paperwork.

What to wear: Black leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes, hair in a neat bun, bring pointe shoes if applicable. Male dancers wear white shirt, black tights, white ballet slippers, white socks.

The Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre will be performing two pieces in the Spring Concert. Ballet Etc. houses NMBT and is a long standing partner.

“Scenes From a Park” is not your typical ballet. It’s more of a Ballet meets Broadway production. The costumes also are not typical of traditional ballet. Instead of tutus and tights, you will see stylish dresses and suits, knickers and vests, military uniforms and even the rags of a bag lady. The ballet is a series of short vignettes telling the story of the colorful characters and everyday occurrences in a city park over the course of a year during the 1940’s. The score is a compilation of songs by Irving Berlin played. The youth ballet company features 19 dancers ages 11-22. as well as professional mime Tom Johnson (Toma the Mime) and other special performers. This charming ballet is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, a laugh to your heart and perhaps even a tear to your eye. It will truly be a marvelous experience, combining dance, music and theater.
